A fairly standard G1 Climax match is elevated by a lack of cameras, editing, and commentary.
At the expense of perhaps sounding like the kind of person who hates when the things they like get popular, the simplicity of the presentation of this G1 Climax match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Yuji Nagata brings a tear to my eye. We get a hardcam shot, no commentary, just the sound of Nagata and Nakamura testing each other on the mat, the noise of the crowd, and individual, anonymous voices shouting their support for both wrestlers. With the entrance stage looming in the background and magazine photographers taking shots around all four sides of the ring, it’s a perfect frame.
