WCW

It’s wild that WCW was running domes for Monday Nitro. This one is the third in a series, following successful outings in the Georgia Dome and the Superdome, bringing some 20,000 people to the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas for an loaded card that somehow has room for an all-time battle of men who did not give a damn in Scott Hall vs. Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.

While it’s been a minute since I’ve had a chance to do a WCW MONDAY NITRO MASTERLIST post, I hardly need to remind any of you that Nitro cards were loaded in theory. Sting and Randy Savage are in the main event here, but with Dissention in the Ranks of the new World order, Hogan and Sting drifting towards a Starrcade ‘97 rematch for the vacant WCW World Heavyweight Championship, and the recent debut of WCW Thunder siphoning away proper dome-level matches like Diamond Dallas Page vs. Chris Benoit, a lot of the in-ring heavy lifting ahead of the eventual inconclusive finish to a hotshoted main event ends up assigned to the cruiserweight division (yay!) and the Disco Inferno (boo!). Will Randy Savage break his knees for the sake of the Alamodome? Will anything on this show crack the MASTERLIST Top 10? ...yes.

THE WCW MONDAY NITRO MASTERLIST
Every episode of WCW Monday Nitro. Every match. Reviewed and ranked.

Next Week: The 288-sided die is back in action, granting me the gift of a one-hour episode of Nitro that looks about as loaded as that gets: It’s February 5, 1996 — episode 23 of WCW Monday Nitro! Randy Savage defends the WCW Championship against Chris Benoit, The Four Horsemen and the Dungeon of Doom EXPLODE, Ric Flair and Marcus Alexander Bagwell have a match that Dave Meltzer apparently gave *** & ½ stars to, and Sting & Lex Luger take it back to the early 90s, defending their WCW Tag Team Championship against the Road Warriors. The worst wrestler on the card is Hugh Morris and the only moral conundrum I have ahead of me is the question of Chris Benoit. “The tope suicida where Benoit falls head first on the concrete is really impressive” note more than a few Cagematch inmates. I’m sure!
