Volk Han is not fucking around in this match. As soon as the bell rings, as soon as it is legal for him to do so, he hurls himself right at Dick Virj, taking him to the mat with a body scissors and going for a heel hook.

Two thoughts crossed my mind at this early juncture:

1. Boy do I wish I was watching this live, without the knowledge that there’s at least 10 more minutes to go.

2. Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit, what if Volk Han had tapped this big motherfucker? 

This 1992 contest has the sort of urgency I’ve come to crave in professional wrestling. Neither Han nor Virj are trying to string along a series of beautiful moves like clockwork, and there is little wasted motion after each shot they throw. This is a fight, and it’s one both men want to win. Volk Han finds himself outmuscled and at a disadvantage when it comes to standing up and fight, so he hurls himself at his younger opponent, takes him to the mat, and struggles for a submission — his plan of attack is surprise, and surprise is rarely picturesque.
