We’re here, baby. The end of Hunter Month. Joseph and I have spent a whole four weeks saying “fuck this man” with our chests, and now, thankfully, we’re done. If you’re wondering if all of the pain, blues, and agony of covering four of Tri’s worst matches was worth it, I’ll say this: it certainly makes the upcoming month of legit bangers that much sweeter. Look at this slate! Then join us in putting the Pontiff of Pain to rest.

Joseph, I cannot believe you and I could have watched a worse match for BIG EGG than Triple H vs. CM Punk, but here we are, with nobody but ourselves to blame. I can’t even post whyhaveyouforsakenme.png — we forsook ourselves.

When we set up the line up for Hunter Month, I knew from the get go that this would be the one I hated the most. I still have that memory of watching it live as it happened since I live on the same side of the world as Australia. A sort of revelatory experience in bad pro wrestling.

This happened during the year or so that I stopped watching before I was hired at Fanfyte — I have absolutely no memory of this era at all, but it must have been bad for Hunter vs. Taker to be the best available draw. I’m granting WWE their ludicrous proposition of Hunter and Taker as major rivals just so I can declare it the worst major rivalry in the history of the company, and this the worst PPV main event I’ve ever seen. Two wrestlers who peaked with each other on Shotgun Saturday Night who couldn’t even muster something appreciably spirited when they had reason to dislike each other working a match as a coda to one of the most overwrought moments of either man’s career’s (to say nothing of Shawn Michaels’) but with absolutely nothing left in the tank. This match is five stars in terms of karmic justice, but an absolute zero. I have to ask, having read your tweets: what was your expectation for this match in 2018? How did these two rate to you then? Has that changed?
Joseph Montecillo
I was looking at that string of tweets and I honestly don't know what I was expecting. I think it's probably worth noting that both these wrestlers had participated (if not necessarily contributed) to two matches from 2018 that I liked very much. I'm referring to their respective Mania matches, where Taker taught Cena the meaning of "fuck around and find out" and Hunter let himself get beat on by a transphobe. Snark aside, I legitimately like both those matches so it's not like they were entirely useless if put in the right circumstances. These are obviously not the right circumstances and since 2018, I've only come to sour more on both men's respective careers. I will, however, argue that I still have quite a lot of fondness and genuine enjoyment for a lot of Taker's career and if pressed, I would call him the second best worker in this match behind only Shawn Michaels.
