Volk Han, Raven, Hayabusa, or El Satanico: YOU DECIDE

Hello! If you missed it, please check out the post where Joseph and I chatted about some of the changes we’re making to the paid tier of BIG EGG this year. This feature is one of them. Welcome to phase one of EXTRA BIG EGG, where I ask you to choose an extra match to review. The poll is open to anybody reading this, but the essay itself is for paid subscribers!

Here’s what’s on offer for EXTRA BIG EGG this month:

El Satanico vs. El Dandy (EMLL 10/26/90): Joseph suggested the first singles match between these two from 1990, and that’s the Super Libre match that leads into their later hair match, which I have to imagine is on the board for us next time we get around to an apuestas. (Watch)

Raven vs. Goldberg (WCW 4/20/98): One of the all-time Nitro moments, with its only flaw (at least so far as my memory is concerned) being that Goldberg/Raven wasn’t a full-blown program. Manages to have the catharsis of Honky/Warrior without the endless Honky Tonk Man championship reign. (Watch)

Hayabusa vs. Masato Tanaka (FMW 5/19/98): There’s a character limit on polls, which boned a Hayabusa AJPW tag option, but look, this Double Titles match between Hayabusa and Masato Tanaka is, according to FMW historian Bret, the second best in the history of the company. (Watch)

Volk Han vs. Dick Vrij (RINGS 8/21/92): Will a second Volk Han match knock some of the shine off of the Han/Nagai encounter? I thought about going with another Han/Nagai match, but someone on Cagematch described Han as an underdog babyface, and that’s the kinda thing I’ve gotta see. (Watch)
